11/26/03 Lots of music publications like Rolling Stone do their "top 100 albums ever" type charts, but I prefer the top 100 indie albums of the '90s from Pitchfork... too bad about the inevitable number one though. 11/23/03 Ah, you're right. I have been displaying signs of laziness in not updating my blog, dear reader. But sometimes, it's just more fun to be observing the world and not necessarily having anything to say. 11/14/03 Even though 2003 has been too weird for me, I have managed to catch some great movies. My most recent recommendation is The Station Agent which I saw last night. It's a touching, heartfelt movie about friendship, very funny in places, and thoroughly enjoyable. So alongside The Cuckoo, Swimming Pool, Lost in Translation, American Splendor, and 28 Days Later, it hasn't been a bad year for movies at all. 11/10/03 Like most people around the Internet I've been having fun with the Church Sign Generator lately. 11/02/03 So I finally went and did it - I have now entered the realm of the digital camera... will there be any going back after this? It has taken me ages but I finally broke down and purchased the tiny and straightforward Sony CyberShot DSC-U30. OK, I didn't purchase it myself, a friend of mine bought two by mistake so I took one off her hands. After looking at the camera and seeing what it could do, it seems perfect for me right now. Two megapixels is enough at the moment, and the fact that this tiny little camera is no larger than a pack of gum makes it a cute little gadget to have around the house. It's certainly no Canon G3, but its Lomo-like simplicity is what appealed to me - it has the same impulsive "I want to shoot now!" appeal. 11/01/03 Canada is odd. Calgary was one of the least photogenic cities I've ever visited, but I won't hold that against it - people were pleasant and friendly there. Canada just seems so vast: the roads felt even wider than in the U.S., and as it had been snowing for a few days, all the cars crawl along the icy streets like everything is in slow-motion. Still, it's another country I can put down on Marty's visited places list, and maybe I should go see Canada in summer to give it a fair chance, as I'm sure its spectacularly beautiful in places.
