Alcatraz Tour, April 2002

All photos taken with an Olympus XA4 using Kodak TCN400 film

the view as you approach the island is especially foreboding on a foggy day...

hardly the warmest of welcomes...

nobody quite knew to where this bridge would lead...

an archway under the old cell house...

rotting wood and grills on the windows...

this old burnt out building looked rather creepy...

this building used to house the power supply for the island - now it looks so isolated and barren...

you are number five...

the water tower also stands neglected and unused...

an earthquake? or was this wall broken down by angry prisoners?

god bless america...

and thus did the crowds flocketh...

compact and bijou...

and another two levels above...

the mysterious corridor 'e' complete with atmospheric lighting...

"what is it about prisons that make me wanna take a crap?"

central heating...

this row of cells was closed off to the public...

that sinking feeling (when one realizes one hasn't set the focus correctly)...

a dark, closed-off stairwell that would've led to the hospital...

the prison kitchen...

a window seat in the dining quarters offers quite a view...

rules and regulations everywhere...

back outside, and everything is weather beaten and miserable...
